Ed Alfke, Chief Executive Officer

A career entrepreneur, Ed has a history of successful ventures to his credit. He has worked in many different markets, from automotive to software. His most famous company is a well-known Canadian success story: Rent-a-Wreck. Ed was 1984 Businessman of the Year, and has been the recipient of many other major awards. He's been featured as a case study in Canadian University text books, and enjoys a solid reputation as a man who gets things done. He has returned from retirement to lead Signalink to its potential. John Francis, General Manager and VP Engineering

John graduated from the University of Liverpool with an Honors degree in Electronics Engineering, and came to British Columbia in 1973, where he spent more than 30 years in product development and manufacturing for Vancouver’s premier high-tech companies at the time, including Glenayre Electronics, MacDonald Dettwiler, and Silent Witness. His most well-known product is the End-Of-Train Unit which eliminated the caboose on freight trains. In the nineties, John founded Tantus Electronics which designed and manufactured Industrial X-Ray equipment. John has extensive experience in high-tech management, hardware and software product development, and design-for-manufacturing, as well as profit and loss responsibility and sales and marketing.


Arthur Voss, Senior Engineer and Product Manager

Art has an electrical engineering degree and has been a design engineer for NASA and USAF. As the senior engineer at Lucent, with a staff of 23 engineers, he was responsible for systems design. Art is a production engineer, charged with the task of improving production for Precision Parts. Art was presented the Lucent "Engineering Award of Excellence" in 2000. Art joined Signalink in 2003 as the Production Manager and led the design team to the successful creation of the Fire-Link products.

Chairman: Richard Morris (Outside Director)

Richard (Rich) Morris, a Fire and Life Safety advocate has been involved in Fire Protection in Canada for more than fifty-five (55) years and is recognized for his major role in pioneering the introduction, use, manufacturing and distribution of early warning smoke detectors and smoke alarms in Canada, the USA and globally, as well as the development of standards thereof.

He is the current Chair of the ULC Committee on Fire Alarm Systems and Associated Equipment, where for 18 years, he has efficiently led in the development of over 20 fire alarm standards. Rich was the first Canadian to serve as Chairman of the National Fire Protection Association NFPA and served on the NFPA Board for 14 years. He is a Founding Director, a Life Member of the Board of Directors and President of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) for five two-year terms. He currently serves as Executive Director of Business and Development of the CFAA.

Ed has been acting CEO and Board Director for Signalink since 2003. He as led, funded and sold numerous early stage companies and been awarded numerous accolades in business and environmental endeavors. He has served on Boards in 4 countries in both the private and public sectors. Regularily, Ed presents to groups on fund raising and Angel investing in Canada and the US and has been responsible for raising millions of dollars for early stage companies.


Director: Ronald Thompson (Outside Director)

Having a background in technological innovation, business development, and corporate management – Ron’s skills focus on business planning, operational execution, finance and governance, plus product development and go-to-market strategy as well as the associated metrics around achieving results.

Ron attended York University and has participated on panels in numerous venture investing conferences to inform entrepreneurs and other early stage investors on the considerations to move a business forward and prudently manage risk, plus strategies to create significant returns for stakeholders.
